in memoriam

Rob Reynders has reached and touched many people.
We will miss his unique, idiosyncratic and colorful personality.

The farewell and celebration of Rob's life took place on Monday, May 29, 2023 in his most favorite place, his own garden at Erve Bonhagen.

Rob was an out-of-the-box idea man, had a love for building and an inexhaustible, disciplined drive to keep doing. A characteristic of Rob was to be outside every day, to do something for an hour per project and especially to make things that were not too ordinary. A real outdoorsman who could not sit still for long. For example, he had decided for himself to make a bench from one scaffolding plank every year. It always had to be a different style and color than the previous benches. This was typical Rob. Even the week before his death he was still sawing planks for his last construction project "The Fitz 2.0". A colorful storage place for the Amonet Foundation and is a reference to the film Fitzcarraldo (1982) by Werner Herzog.

Rob was successively a general practitioner, nursing home doctor, specialist in elderly and general geriatrician in Groningen during his working life. During his early career in the nursing home he met his wife Ina. Together they moved to Norg and raised four children there, Claudia, Katinka, Tim and Saskia. Rob and Ina lived a wonderful life together at Erve Bonhagen for 37 years.

The event Worteldagen started in 2006 and the first Folly Art Norg edition started in 2018. Rob took care of the practical and logistical aspects of the events. When Rob retired, his alternative, creative spirit was given even more space to colour outside the lines. In his garden and also at the events, there are crazy, colourful structures or utensils that create a characteristic atmosphere.

In 2019, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Curative treatment was no longer possible. Through hormone and chemotherapy, Rob was able to live his life the way he wanted for a long time.

Not seeing Rob outside on his property anymore, drumming on his djembe or hearing his ideas about the events, will be difficult to comprehend for a long time to come. What we do know is that Folly Art Norg was his pride and joy and he would not want this event to continue in any other way. That is why we, his wife Ina and daughter Saskia, will continue the event in his spirit as best we can.

Rest in peace dear Rob
Dear husband, dad, grandpa and friend.
